Hi! I’m Kim Yaris. I am both a teacher and a teacher educator.
I began my career as a third, fourth, and fifth-grade teacher. After seven years in the classroom, I left to pursue full-time literacy consulting. For the next twenty years, I worked alongside teachers in their classrooms modeling lessons, coaching for best practices, and leading teacher trainings. In addition, I co-authored 40 Guided Reading books, several curricular resources, and two professional books for teachers (Who’s Doing the Work? and Reading Wellness). Now, I am working as both a Middle School English teacher and a literacy consultant. Working concurrently as a consultant and classroom teacher lends depth and authenticity to my work with teachers.
As an educator, my philosophy is simple: knowledge is power. The more we know, the more we can do–and this is true whether we are five, fifteen, or fifty. No matter whether I’m teaching students or teachers, my goal is to help learners feel empowered to reach their greatest potential.
A consummate learner, I continue to hone my repertoire of strategies for helping students become better readers, writers, and thinkers through my own continued practice, research, and reflection. No matter whether I am teaching students or teaching teachers, I am committed to providing thoughtful, interactive, and highly engaging instruction.
If you’re like me and want to build better readers, writers, and thinkers, let’s work together!
